About

Recently, I saw one of these about me pages that simply said, “I am a photographer.” Done. And though I love the brevity, I sure hope it takes a lot more than that to sum me up.

Of course, who says this “about” page has to be about me, it could be about the blog, and actually I like that a lot better in this particular situation (because I plan to have a different bio page on the site anyway). Some have balked at my use of the word “photoblog” for this blog, because, as I found out after beginning to use the word for myself (I genuinely thought it was a nifty word creation of my own), there are thousands of “photoblogs” out there that are quite different creatures.

To many, a photoblog is a “blog of photos” or “blogging with photos”. There are few to no words, just photos. That is great; I love the idea. That was not my idea for this blog, though.

Sure, I want to display my photos, but I would only put them in the blog when I actually have something to say about them. In addition to talking about my photos, I also want to publicly think through various topics relating to photography.

So, in contrast to the definitions above, my photoblog is a “photography weblog” or a “blog about photography”. I like to communicate…with words. So, sometimes it is about gear (though that gets old fast, and there are millions of other places to find that information), sometimes about taking better photos, sometimes answering your questions, and sometimes just my deeper thoughts on why we do photography (what I call photosophy, and to my knowledge, that one is original and unused).

So, enjoy. Or don’t, that is fine too. I do this primarily for me as an outlet to think and to clarify my thoughts, and also a way to push and develop my creative muscle, like a morning run for my creativity. However, I could do all that on my own computer and not waste the time and money of doing it where you all can read it. Making this public is in hopes that this will be of some use to all of you too.
